When the company Plast Automation AG in Cham was integrated into the motan group in the 80s, new products in the areas of dosing, mixing and conveying were added to motan’s portfolio. The plastics sector was continuously and steadily growing, overtaking motan’s traditional two areas of heating motors and plant protection. motan’s developed drying line had been incorporated successfully. With the new development of a system control, a turnover of 30 million Deutschmark was generated in the plastics sector. The next step was to advance with global expansion.

Introduction of the franchise system and expansion of the sales network worldwide
Under the guiding principle: “As decentral as possible and as central as necessary,” the expansion of the global sales network was on the agenda. With the restructuring, the franchise principle, which is unusual for this industry, was introduced. The goal was to increase and promote individual corporate responsibility but also to fulfil regional requirements for material handling solutions.

With this corporate structure, the foundation for additional growth was put in place. The orientation of motan holding gmbh was always strategic and still concentrates on engineering, marketing and controlling. The team, which initially consisted of 3 to 4 people, continued to grow, and today includes 68. Because of the rapid speed of digitalisation, IT became increasingly important for the motan group and the individual subsidiaries. Therefore, IT service became part of motan holding gmbh in 2019.

Individual corporate responsibility is the key to success
Today, motan is represented globally in 12 countries with their own organisations. And particularly in exceptional situations, like the one we have seen this year, the principle of individual corporate responsibility has proven itself in the different regions. motan holding gmbh still holds true to its guiding principle and is planning for further growth in the next years.
